Atlas Of The World's Strangest Animals

https://za.gl/zd6vo

Book Details

Category: Animals & Pets
Number of Pages: 221
Language: English
Publisher: Marshall Cavendish Corporation
For Ages: 8 - 13

About the Book

A companion to Atlas of the World’s Most Dangerous Animals (2007), this volume profiles 50 animals, among them the giraffe, the Siamese fighting fish, the koala, the great grey shrike, and the seahorse. Arrangement is by region, and each animal is covered in a four-page entry combing text with a “Key Facts” box and strong visuals, including photographs, maps, and artwork. Like the earlier work, this one lacks research aids such as further-reading lists. In addition, there is no explanation of why the 50 animals were selected; in fact, some of them “may seem quite mundane,” as the brief introduction notes. Nevertheless, the topic and the presentation will appeal to students.

Each animal is small enough to hold in your hand (or even perch on your finger), but photographed in eye-popping detail by Igor Siwanowicz – a scientist who is a rising star in the world of macrophotography and wins rave reviews for his online gallery of truly wild portraits. From praying mantises pouncing on their prey to fan-toed geckos with an incredible grip, meet the natural born killers – and survivors – that fascinate Igor and burst out of large-format double pages designed to make the most of macro.

As well as these star portraits, special features look at how tiny animals live, their unique adaptations, the habitats they've conquered, and why they matter to the rest of us. A foreword from Igor, field notes on how he works, a glossary, and an index make this beautiful book a riveting read and an invaluable source of information for readers of all ages to pore over and return to again and again.

This visually stunning natural history book brings the animal kingdom closer than you've ever seen it before!. Number of Pages: 34
Language: English
Publisher: Carolrhoda Books
Grade Level: Preschool - 2
For Ages: 4 and Up

About the Book

Gabbie is a monkey baby. She is growing up in a zoo. She drinks her mother's milk and eats the vegetables, fruit, and nuts that the zookeeper feeds her. With her strong fingers and toes, Gabbie climbs onto her mother's back, into trees, and onto toys.

Describes the development of Gabbie, a monkey living in a zoo, from birth to age six months.

Editorial Reviews - From School Library Journal

PreSchool-K–Simple text and average-quality photos combine to introduce a charming newborn African monkey, a red-crowned mangabey. Following the primate throughout the Los Angeles Zoo's specially designed habitat, Hewett photographed Gabbie on stone-wall perches, clipped-grass patches, leafless boughs, and bamboo bridge frames. Meager information about her physical and social development is revealed as she progresses from a clinging, suckling baby to a bold, curious explorer accepting fruit treats from zookeepers. While the book ends with the animal's sixth month, a time line generalizes her life to her first birthday, completed by more information about monkeys and zoos.

There is no better friend in life than a dog. They are loyal, playful, intelligent and have the unique ability to bond with humans. Its ancestor the wolf is part of a large canine family, along with jackals, dingoes and foxes. Each member, from the coyote to the bat-eared fox, shares the physical family resemblance, but also the social bonds and heightened senses that help them survive. This book explores all the different canids, from the ones that chew our shoes to the ones that could crush our bones.
